Verdicts & Settlements

The Watts Law Firm has won many significant trial victories and settlements for individuals who have been injured in cars or trucks. Here are some examples of monetary recoveries we have been able to achieve for our clients.

The cases described here reflect the net amounts of the judgments or settlements our clients received after the deduction of attorneys fees and expenses-in other words, what our clients actually received. The actual settlement or verdict would be higher.

$ 7,201,347.91 - Received by Client after Attorney's Fees and Expenses. A properly seat-belted 12-year old boy was rendered quadriplegic when a tire on the passenger car his father was driving failed, causing the vehicle to roll over several times. The family alleged that the tire was unreasonably dangerous and defective as designed, causing it to be unreasonably prone to in-use failure, and that the tire manufacturer committed negligence in making the tire. The tire manufacturer entered confidential settlement.

$ 5,290,339.30 - Received by Client after Attorney's Fees and Expenses. A properly seat-belted boy was partially ejected and killed when the S.U.V. he was riding in was struck by another vehicle at an intersection, causing the S.U.V. to roll over. A Texas jury found the S.U.V.'s seatbelt and side window glass unreasonably dangerous and defective for failure to adequately protect the S.U.V.'s occupants, and the automaker settled all claims with the family after the jury returned its verdict.

$ 4,284,536.19 - Received by Client after Attorney's Fees and Expenses. A properly seat-belted 16-year old girl was partially ejected and killed when the pickup truck her father was driving rolled over. A Texas jury found the truck's seatbelt, side window glass, and roof unreasonably dangerous and defective for failure to adequately protect the truck's occupants in the event of a collision, and confidentially settled all claims with the family after the jury returned its verdict.

$ 7,230,286.64 - Received by Client after Attorney's Fees and Expenses. Several truck terminal workers were burned and/or killed when an oilfield truck's diesel engine ignited. Plaintiffs alleged that the engine was defectively designed and unreasonably dangerous and was prone to hazardous flash fires. The claims against several defendants, including the diesel engine manufacturer, were confidentially settled out of court.

$ 9,600,054.19 - Received by Client after Attorney's Fees and Expenses. A man was burned to death when the pickup truck he was riding in burst into flames after a collision with another vehicle. Plaintiffs alleged that the pickup's fuel system was defectively designed and unreasonably prone to post-collision, fuel-fed fires. The jury found the vehicle's fuel system defective, and the automaker confidentially settled all claims with plaintiffs after the jury returned its verdict.

Although all cases are different and specific results depend on the facts of each case, these recoveries are reflective of our past performance.
